Eclipse Season – Endings & Beginnings

Solar Eclipse in Aires – April 8th

Eclipses have been seen by different traditions in different ways. From the most practical level an eclipse is a period of one celestial body standing between another celestial body and altering the normal exposure to celestial influences.

Some traditions feel eclipses are inauspicious times, to not do anything at all, to remain indoors and not expose oneself directly to the energy / line of sight. Others feel they are auspicious times to be conscious and focus inwardly.

Eclipses always come in pairs of lunar and solar.

A lunar eclipse is when the earth passes between the sun and the moon and casts a shadow on the moon.

A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the earth casts a shadow on the earth.

These celestial occurrences create extra-ordinary conditions upon the planet – altering regular the cycle of light and dark and planetary influences which have a unique impact to life.

Lunar eclipses occur on full moons and mark endings. They tend to heighten the sense of polarity and emotional intensity / instability. They are periods that are thought to be very beneficial for consciously creating inner and outer balance. In addition they are good times for letting go of the past — old fears, habits, situations, feelings, projects — so you can feel light enough to move forward.

Solar eclipses on new moons and mark new beginnings. This is a time that the sun’s light that we draw strength and confidence from, is obscured by the moon – often seen as a planet tied with the emotions. Its a time to find inner strength to focus and take conscious action towards. It may require a bit more effort or inner fire to overcome psycho-emotional gravitational forces – but solar eclipses help us to find our inner strength and commit it towards our Truth.

The Solar Eclipse on April 8th is in alignment with the focus of this 13 day cycle of releasing the old and embracing one’s highest truth.

During the eclipse it’s recommended to be more reflective rather than active. Being out and about can often feel disorienting because in a very real way, everything is being subtly influenced in a slightly unusual way. We never know how that will affect people and other things we may encounter. It’s safer and often more productive to remain at home and as introspective and conscious as possible.

It’s also highly recommended not to look directly at the eclipse – in many different (Yogic, Maya, Andean) traditions. Best remain indoors during the time of direct eclipse.

It is a great time for meditating, journaling, writing or rituals.

Enjoy the Solar Eclipse!
